Everyone seems to get exited on new year, a chance for a new start. New year is always over rated, the same as summer. People put too much emphasis how a new year is a new start. A new start can happen on any day of the year. Anyway instead of being scrooge (does scrooge still count for ruining new years?) I'll predict something for 2011. My prediction is the face of 2011 will be Florrie Arnold. She is an english singer/songwriter/drummer and is the face of Nina Ricci's Perfume. Alexa Chung has been the IT girl for the last few years and nearly every girl dresses like her so it's time for a change. Florrie is gorgeous and I think she will be a recognised style icon in 2011.
As a final friday song of 2010, I have chosen my favourite song of the year. I have a hard time on picking my favourite as every song/film/album 'is my favourite ever!' so I've chosen a band that I am so glad i went to go see live and buy their album. They will always be in my music collection. I think this is my favourite song by them...but I'm sure it will change by next week!
Mumford and Sons- Roll away your stone
'Roll away your stone, I'll roll away mine
Together we can see what we can find
Don't leave me alone at this time,
For I am afraid of what I will discover inside'
Thank you for every single person who has read this blog, I sometimes feel I'm writing to myself and no ones reading, but my stats say otherwise. Inc Fashion will hopefully get bigger and better in 2011.
Thank you and a Happy New Year!
Geraldine Hoff Doyle, the woman behind the 'We Can Do It' campaign, has died aged 86. She represented the power of women from the Rosie the Riveter era.
Watching one of the best films of all time, Armageddon, made me realise how beautiful Liv Tyler really is (along with Ben Affleck of course, and I have a soft spot for Bruce Willis, what a hero!) There's something really natural about her look and I loved the videos she starred in with Alicia Silverstone for her father's, Aerosmith, music videos!
Rumours are circulating that Rihanna will be doing a collaboration with Topshop after she was spotted having lunch with Sir Phillip Green in Barbados over the holidays. How exiting would that be? I am in love with Rihanna's style lately and she's doing flower prints better than anyone these days! Topshop needs a good kick up the arse as their getting a little boring and predictable and Rihanna might be the right person to do that! (none of the dominatrix stuff though please Rihanna! stick to the style you've got now!)
Mary Kate Olsen graced the cover of Elle UK for the September 2008 Issue. This was when I really started reading Elle and is one of my favourite shoots of Mary-Kate. I love the fur Miu Miu coat! This is actually one of my favourite Elle covers aswel, especially the collectors edition!
With the announcement of Kate Middleton and William's engagement, everyone has been discussing that Kate will have a lot of pressure to follow into Princess Diana's footsteps. There has never quite been a princess like Diana, and I dont think there ever will be. She sent the media into a frenzy and was a rebel against The Royal Family. I watched the film The Queen the other day, which portrays what happened behind the palace doors the week Diana died. Everyone knows that the Queen gave the death a cold shoulder as the public mourned the death of their princess. If you haven't seen the film, you really should. It's very interesting.
Here are some of my favourite shots of Diana which were shot by Mario Testino.
So the big day is tomorrow. Christmas is a little bitter-sweet as I think it can be a happy time for most but also a sad time. To celebrate Christmas the fashion way, here's a look back at the last ten years of Vogue December Issues.
December 2000 Kate Moss shot by Nick Knight. I love the cover with the silhouette, reminds me of the old Vogue Covers
December 2001
Another Kate Moss cover shot by Nick Knight. Love love love how clean the cover is and the red really stands and Kate looks so different from usual.
December 2002
Elton John and Liz Hurley shot by Mario Testino. I love this cover as it' so fun and i love the use of the piano. This screams Christmas!
December 2003
A very young looking Kylie Minogue shot by Nick Knight. I love how she's sat in a champagne glass/chair. This cover is very millenium 2000's with the use of silver.
December 2004
A big fan of Sienna Miller so I love this cover shot by Mario Testino. I think the colours purple and silver work really well together and the pantomime font they have used.
December 2005
Gwyneth Paltrow shot by Regan Cameron for a very non festive christmas issue. The december issue is all about glitz and glamour and Vogue have failed to impress with this cover.
December 2006
To celebrate Vogue's 90th birthday, a collection of different covers. I love the concept and the way it turned out, celebrating both old and new covers.
December 2007
Sienna Miller once again shot by Nick Knight. I love this cover with the use of silver and the text chosen. This is my favourite christmas cover and by far the most festive.
December 2008
Kate Moss by Nick Knight. I love the colours used and the romanticism of it all. Kate looks beautiful and I love that the cover folded out to create a bigger picture.
December 2009
Lara Stone shot by Mario Testino. I love the colours used with the white black and pale pink but the one thing that really bothers me about the cover is that Lara's corset is too tight for her and it barely covers her *ahem* assets. This could have been stunning if it had been tight right size.
December 2010
I really dislike this cover. I find Emma Watson, shot by Mario Testino, irrelevant and a girl who got lucky. I dislike her hair and there's too much going on, on the cover. Too much text and too much gold. Vogue's November issue would have been a stunning choice for a cover. You can see that here
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and that Santa brings you what you wanted! For today's Friday Song, something festive. This is my favourite Christmas song ever! I love the lyrics!
"Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognise me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again"
There was an interesting programme about the re-opening of the London Savoy Hotel (I know, how rock n roll of me) the other night. The hotel has been made up and looks beautiful and they discussed how it used to be filled with celebrities. One visit was made my Marilyn Monroe. I think she looks beautiful (as always) in these pictures and it's such a shame you dont see women like her today (the only exception being Dita Von Teese)
